Bromo Wildfire Spreads, Tourist Access to Mount Bromo Fully Closed from 8 August

A wildfire burning in the Mount Bromo area has expanded, prompting the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Authority to take the decisive step of fully closing all tourist access to the iconic volcano. The total closure came into effect on Saturday, 8 August, at 22:00 WIB.

TNBTS Head Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha stated that the decision was made to ensure the effectiveness of firefighting operations on the ground and to guarantee the safety of visitors. The closure applies to all entry points to the Bromo tourist area without exception.

Authorities have not yet determined how long the closure will remain in place. The reopening of the area will depend entirely on the development of the fire situation and the success of teams in extinguishing the flames. For visitors who have already purchased tickets through the official online booking system for dates affected by the closure, the TNBTS Authority is offering two solutions: rescheduling or a refund. Affected visitors are asked to complete a form provided by the TNBTS online booking application administrator.

Firefighting efforts are being intensified as the flames spread towards Bukit B29, driven by strong winds. Joint teams have deployed water-bombing helicopters and drones to combat the blaze. The cause of the fire, which is burning on Mount Batok, remains unconfirmed as officials continue to gather evidence and information.
