Bromo Wildfire Scorches Nearly 900 Hectares, Joint Task Force Battles Remaining Hotspots

A wildfire that started on 3 August 2026 has scorched an estimated 899.35 hectares of land in the Bromo area, according to Colonel Inf Wahyu Ramadhanus Suryawan, Commander of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Fire Handling Task Force. The integrated firefighting operation involves the military, police, and four local governments: Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Malang, and Lumajang. Efforts have successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading further. The current focus is on extinguishing remaining active hotspots in the Watangan, Argowulan, and Dingklik areas. Challenges faced by the task force include wind factors, dry weather conditions, and thick fog limiting visibility for water-bombing helicopter pilots. Operations today optimised two helicopters, reduced from three, to adapt to the weather and visual conditions. A forward command post has been established to coordinate ongoing patrols, personnel stationing, and public information management.
