Bromo Wildfire Rages On, Tourist Site Closure Extended to 15 August
Forest and land fires in the Mount Bromo area are still being handled. The situation has led to the total closure of the Bromo tourist area being extended until 15 August 2026.
The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Agency (TNBTS) announced the extension of the closure through its official Instagram account @bbtnbtsbromotenggersemeru.
“The closure of the Mount Bromo tourist area has been extended until 15 August 2026, in line with the condition of the area which is still in the process of being handled,” said TNBTS on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
Tourists affected by the closure may apply for a refund or reschedule their ticket visits in accordance with the applicable provisions.
Specifically for tourists who booked tickets through travel agents, TNBTS has requested that proof of ticket payment transfers from the travel agent be prepared as supporting documentation for refund applications.
“Valid refund applications must include proof of ticket payment transfer, as shown in the example,” stated TNBTS.
Information regarding the reopening of the Mount Bromo tourist area will be announced by TNBTS through its official channels, taking into account developments on the ground.
Previously, TNBTS imposed a total closure of the Mount Bromo tourist area for all visit activities starting Saturday, 8 August 2026 at 22.00 WIB.
The policy was implemented after the forest fire in the Bromo Caldera area spread. The closure was applied at all entry points to the TNBTS area, namely Cemorolawang in Probolinggo Regency, Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency, Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang Regency, and Senduro in Lumajang Regency.
The Head of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Agency, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, said the closure was carried out to ensure visitor safety while also providing space for officers to focus on handling the fire.
“The closure is being carried out for the effectiveness of fire suppression efforts, as well as taking into account the security and safety of visitors. The closure deadline will be announced further in accordance with developments in the field,” said Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha in his statement.
As of Wednesday, 12 August 2026, the Joint Task Force is still extinguishing a number of hotspots located within the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area.
The area affected by the forest and land fires has been reported to be approaching 900 hectares. The fire covers areas of Pasuruan, Probolinggo, and Lumajang Regencies.
