Malang, East Java – The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (BB TNBTS) confirmed it is evaluating the safety of tourist transportation along the Bromo Mountain route following a single-vehicle tourist jeep accident that resulted in two fatalities.

“BB TNBTS is coordinating with relevant parties to evaluate tourist transportation safety,” said Public Relations Officer Endrip Wahyutama in Malang, East Java, on Saturday.

He outlined key areas of focus for the evaluation, including enhanced oversight of tourist vehicle operational fitness, commitment from tourism service providers to safety standards, and emergency response preparedness and coordination. The assessment will also target response and evacuation mechanisms in the event of incidents within the tourist area.

The authority fully supports the police’s investigation to determine the full cause of the accident. “This will allow necessary corrective measures to be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.

BB TNBTS extended condolences to the victims and affected families. “We express our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families,” he added.

The accident occurred on Friday, 29 May, at the Letter S curve in Wonokitri Village, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. The two fatalities were the tourist jeep driver, identified as MS, and passenger YWA. Three other passengers, ZH, FR, and FNN, sustained injuries.

Pasuruan Police stated the jeep, registered BG 1478 EF, was travelling north to south when it hit a cliff before overturning. Authorities suspect brake failure caused the accident.
