Bromo Remains Closed as Forest Fires Rage, Access Restricted Until 15 August

The closure of the Mount Bromo tourist area has been extended until 15 August 2026 as forest and land fires (karhutla) continue to burn. The decision to extend the total closure of access was announced by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (TNBTS) via its official Instagram account @bbtnbromotenggersemeru. “The closure of the Mount Bromo tourist area has been extended until 15 August 2026, adjusting to the condition of the area which is still in the process of being handled,” TNBTS stated, as reported by detikJatim on Wednesday (12/8/2026). TNBTS also explained that affected visitors can apply for a refund or reschedule their tickets in accordance with applicable regulations. Meanwhile, those who made bookings through travel agents are advised to request proof of ticket payment transfer from the agent to be attached to the refund application.
