Bromo on Fire Again, Fire Spotted at Pengol Savanna

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area has been hit by fire once again. This time, the flames have burnt the Pengol Savanna area, one of the key locations within the Mount Bromo region.

Endrip Wahyutama, Public Relations Officer for the TNBTS Grand Office, confirmed the incident. He stated that the fire was detected on Thursday afternoon (10/9).

“Regarding the fire incident in the Bromo area, for the time being, we can confirm that a fire has indeed occurred in the Pengol Savanna area. Based on initial information, the incident was known on Thursday afternoon, 10 September 2026,” said Endrip on Thursday night.

As of now, the TNBTS authorities have not been able to confirm the exact starting point or the cause of the fire. He noted that field officers are currently focusing on containment and monitoring.

“Regarding the details of the starting point and the cause of the fire, we cannot provide information at this time as officers are still conducting handling and monitoring on the ground,” he said.

Endrip stated that the firefighting process currently involves several parties, including TNBTS officers, Manggala Agni (fire brigade), and the Fire Care Community (MPA). Coordination with various related parties is also ongoing to support field operations.

“The current handling involves TNBTS officers, Manggala Agni, and the Fire Care Community (MPA). We are also continuing to coordinate with relevant parties to support the response on the ground,” he added.

Meanwhile, regarding the status of access and tourism activities at Mount Bromo, Endrip mentioned that the TNBTS leadership is still at the scene with the team to coordinate directly.

“Regarding the status of access and tourism activities at Mount Bromo, the leadership is currently still at the fire site, and the coordination process is ongoing. For the time being, there is no information regarding changes to access status that we can provide,” he said.

He added that they will continue to monitor developments on the ground as the fire conditions remain dynamic. Further information will be released through official TNBTS channels.
