Bromo Forest Fire Expands to 742 Hectares, Water Bombing Fleet Increased to Three Helicopters
Forest and land fires (karhutla) in the Mount Bromo area have now reached 742 hectares of burned land. Three helicopters have been deployed to assist in extinguishing the flames.
“The area of burned land continues to expand and has now reached 742 hectares,” said Head of Emergency and Logistics at the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Satriyo Nurseno in Surabaya on Monday (10/8).
The focus of personnel is now on continued firefighting efforts using three helicopters, one drone, and eight fire engines.
“The current situation is that the fire at P30 has spread towards residential areas, and the fire in the Dingklik Valley appears to be quite large,” said Satriyo.
Meanwhile, weather conditions in the Bromo area on Monday morning were reported to be clear, with wind direction from the east to southeast at speeds of less than 5 kilometres per hour. Satriyo said the joint team continues to work hard carrying out firefighting operations via land and air routes.
“The teams involved include the Surabaya City Fire Service, BPBD Mojokerto, BPBD Pasuruan, BPBD Probolinggo, BPBD Lumajang, BPBD Malang, and the Provincial BPBD,” he said.
In addition, support from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) with 2 units continues, plus 1 helicopter from the East Java Provincial Government, and support from TNI, Polri, and TNBTS ground teams as well as several volunteers continues to work in synergy to extinguish the fire.
“Currently, water bombing is more focused on the B30 area, the Dingklik area in Pasuruan Regency, as well as areas that still have potential fire spots as indicated by visible smoke plumes,” he said.
He explained that the implementation of water bombing operations on 10 August 2026 will be adjusted according to weather conditions, particularly visibility and wind speed, while also considering aviation safety aspects.
Ground firefighting support, fire spot monitoring using drones and Cassa aircraft, as well as logistics and refuelling support continue to be coordinated to accelerate fire handling.
Meanwhile, helicopter refuelling will be carried out at Ranu Pani and Ranu Regulo to increase the effectiveness of water bombing operations and ensure the safety of personnel. Satriyo added that fuel distribution support at Ranupani is entirely the responsibility of the East Java Provincial BPBD.
