Bromo Fire Spreads Towards Malang, Three Tourist Access Routes Closed

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang Regency, East Java, has reported that a forest fire in the Mount Bromo area is spreading towards the local region, specifically to Jemplang. The fire’s front has moved past the border marker between Malang and Lumajang regencies. Joint teams are currently conducting ground firefighting operations by creating firebreaks and using water spray from tanker trucks provided by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) and the East Java Provincial BPBD. The fire initially broke out in the Bantengan Block, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, on Monday. To ensure the safety of visitors, the TNBTS authority closed three tourist access routes to Mount Bromo on Wednesday evening: Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang Regency, and Senduro in Lumajang Regency. The closures are in effect until an unspecified time. Tourists can still access Mount Bromo via the Cemoro Lawang entrance in Probolinggo Regency and the Wonokitri entrance in Pasuruan Regency.
