Bromo Fire Spreads to 51 Hectares, Origin Point Identified

Dozens of hectares of land in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area have been engulfed in flames. Endrip Wahyutama, Public Relations Officer for the TNBTS Centre, stated that the fire originated in the Bantengan Block, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, which is not a tourist area.

Endrip said that on the fourth day, efforts to tackle the fire are still ongoing. The fire has spread further, reaching the Malang Regency area. ‘This is the fourth day, and it is still burning. The largest affected area is in the Watugede region, Probolinggo Regency,’ Endrip explained, as quoted by detikJatim on Thursday (6/8/2026).

Endrip stated that the area affected by the fire has reached 51 hectares. However, his team has not yet confirmed the extent of the fire if it spreads further. ‘As of yesterday, there was a report of 51 hectares. But it will certainly increase today; we do not know the extent yet,’ he stressed.

Endrip also revealed that the initial fire point was in the Bantengan Block, which is not part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park tourist area. The point, according to Endrip, is an unofficial shortcut used by residents from Jemplang to Argosari Village, Lumajang Regency. ‘The source is up there (Bantengan Block), not a tourist location, nor a public route. It is a shortcut used by locals,’ he explained.

When asked about the cause of the fire, Endrip confirmed that his team will deploy an investigation team after the fire is fully handled. ‘For now, until the fourth day, we are still focusing on extinguishing the fire. The assessment of the cause will be done afterwards. We will also form an investigation team to uncover the cause,’ he said.
