Bromo Fire Expands, 942 Hectares of Land Scorched

A forest and land fire in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has expanded. Approximately 942 hectares of land have been reported scorched.

Active fire spots are still being monitored in the Dengklik, Penanjakan, and Tosari areas. Head of the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Gatot Soebroto said that firefighting efforts continue to be intensified at the points that remain a concern.

“Alhamdulillah, for the P-30 sector, no more fire spots have been found since this morning. However, we are still conducting strict monitoring at several other points,” said Gatot Soebroto when confirmed.

Firefighting efforts are ongoing with the deployment of 11 fire engines as well as joint personnel from fire departments and BPBD across various regions, including Surabaya, Nganjuk, Mojokerto, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Malang, and Jombang, which have also sent additional assistance.

“In addition to the land fleet, we have also prepared three water tank units and operational vehicles. TNI and Polri personnel are also continuing to reinforce the field,” explained Gatot.

As a result of this incident, around 942 hectares of land have been reported affected by the fire. Gatot stressed that going forward, the involvement of the community and visitors is key to prevention.

“Do not let there be any activity that triggers a fire, especially during the dry season. If making a campfire or smoking, make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving. Even a small ember can reignite because of the wind,” he said.
