Broker robbed of Rp 142 million

JAKARTA (JP): Twelve masked men robbed a land broker of Rp 142 million (US$59,789) cash and 143 grams of gold jewelry in Lemah Abang Bekasi yesterday.

A City Police officer said the men broke into Wadi Supriadi's house on Jl. Tegal Nanas, while Wadi was talking with a friend, Somad.

"One of them tied Somad up while the others forced Wadi to give up his money. They threatened to kill Wadi if he refused to meet the demands," the officer said.

Four of the bandits forced Wadi to go to his bedroom to show them where the money he had just got from a developer as land compensation was.

The robbers then forced Wadi's wife to show where she kept her jewelry, the officer said.

Police came into the house and found what they believe to be one of the bandits' pair of shoes, the officer said. (jun)
