Broiler Chicken Becomes Largest Contributor to Inflation in Bali for August 2026

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has recorded that the price of broiler chicken in Bali was the largest contributor to Bali’s inflation in August 2026, rising by 8.34 per cent with a contribution of 0.21 per cent. The price increase for broiler chicken was influenced by the rising demand for traditional activities, such as weddings and Ngaben (cremation ceremonies).

“The increase in demand for broiler chicken is due to traditional activities such as weddings, Ngaben, and so on,” stated the Head of BPS Bali Province, Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan, during a press conference in Denpasar on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

On the other hand, the supply of poultry ready for harvest also experienced a decline. This condition is suspected to be related to the sub-optimal input of day-old chickens (DOC) in the previous month, July 2026.

“We have received information from several media outlets that the population of harvestable chickens has decreased because DOC levels were not optimal in July,” said Agus.

Agus emphasised that increased demand will always affect prices. According to him, price hikes can occur when rising demand is not balanced by sufficient supply from producers.

In August 2026, Bali experienced a monthly inflation rate of 0.61 per cent. BPS noted that the food, beverages, and tobacco group was the main driver of inflation, with an increase of 1.14 per cent and a contribution of 0.35 per cent.

In addition to broiler chicken, several other commodities also contributed to the August 2026 inflation. These include air transport, which saw an increase of 10.09 per cent with a contribution of 0.03 per cent, followed by green beans, which experienced inflation of 35.85 per cent with a contribution of 0.03 per cent.
