Broadcasting bill and press freedom

From Media Indonesia

If the significant differences between the broadcasting
community, represented by ATVI, MPPI, PRSSNI and so forth, and
the working committee of the House of Representatives on the
Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) are not wisely handled
than the problems that arise could prove critical to the
country's broadcasting world. To avoid polemics, particularly in
the broadcasting community, it is advisable to have this
particular bill reviewed and improved.

The broadcasting law is a matter of great and strategic
urgency in our national community, now engaged in the building of
democracy and the implementation of regional autonomy. To
formulate a broadcasting bill which could accommodate more ideas
and ensure the coordination of various ideas, everything must
refer to the Constitution or the relevant laws, such as those
regarding the press, on telecommunications, on consumer
protection and on films.

It is expected that this broadcasting law will eventually lead
to the establishment of responsible "press freedoms" based on
professionalism and upholding ethics, morality and the law, a
condition beneficial to those in broadcasting and the public.
