Britons tried on heroin charges
BANGKOK (AFP): Britons Sandra Gregory and Robert Locke
returned to criminal court yesterday for another session in their
16-month trial on drugs charges, featuring testimony seeking to
establish Locke's innocence.
Gregory and Locke, both 28, were arrested in February 1993 and
on charges of possession and trafficking in heroin. Gregory, from
Halifax in Yorkshire, has confessed, while Locke, from Essex, has
denied the charges.
Dennis James, 32, of Victoria, Australia, testified he had
been with Locke for several hours prior to the latter's arrest,
and there had been no talk nor sign of drugs.
Gregory and Locke were stopped by customs agents at Bangkok
International Airport on a tipoff from British anti-narcotics
agents who said Locke was believed to be smuggling heroin.
But it was Gregory who was found to be hiding a 150-gram
package containing the drugs in her vagina.
