Briton protests detention

JAKARTA: Jakarta International Montessori School (JIMS) director Frank Richardson has protested against his detention by Jakarta Police for allegedly beating his wife during a domestic dispute.

"Richardson is charged under Article 351 of the Criminal Code on violence," his lawyer, Robert B. Quimo said Friday whilst vigorously refuting the allegations.

He complained about the lack of access to his British client.

"I haven't had the chance to meet him because visits are only allowed on Mondays and Thursdays."

Richardson was arrested on Wednesday.

Sherisada filed a report with City Police on Oct. 27, claiming she was beaten by Richardson.

However, Richardson's secretary, Dina, said the couple were involved in an assets dispute.

Antara news agency reported Saturday that Richardson's other lawyer, Benny K. Harman, had protested that police had not started formal questioning.

Benny also rejected the services of two interpreters provided by City Police, saying they were not officially registered. -- JP
