British police to teach in RP

MANILA (AFP): A group of British police are to arrive in the
Philippines Monday to help train Filipino officers in
investigating abuse against children and women, the British
embassy said yesterday.

The four-week course to be given by the Durham Constabulary
involves training on the latest forensic methods, interview
techniques, and how to deal sensitively with women and child
victims, an embassy statement said.

"Britain is committed to fighting women and child abuse, and I
am delighted that we are able to help the Philippine government's
own efforts to combat this difficult problem, and bring abusers
to justice," British ambassador Adrian Thorpe said.

The Durham constables will train 16 police investigators, a
government prosecutor, a government social worker, a member of
the child protection unit of the Philippine General Hospital, and
representatives of non-government child advocacy groups.
