British National Found Dead in Depok Immigration Detention Bathroom After Arrest Related to Residency Permit
DEPOK, KOMPAS.com - A British national with the initials DJR (53) was found dead in the bathroom of the detention room at the Depok Immigration Office, West Java, on Tuesday afternoon (21/4/2026). DJR had previously been arrested by immigration officers for allegedly violating his residency permit on Monday (20/4/2026). The Head of Public Relations for the Metro Depok Police, AKP Made Budi, stated that DJR was found in a hanging position inside the bathroom. Made explained that DJR was first noticed to be absent from the detention room by immigration officers at 15:20 WIB. Officers then searched, including in the bathroom. However, when called, there was no response from DJR. Eventually, the officers forced open the bathroom door and found DJR already lifeless. “Officers forced open the toilet door, and it turned out the victim was inside the bathroom in a state of hanging with his legs bent backwards and body leaning forward,” he said. Based on initial examination by the identification team, the police found no signs of violence on DJR’s body. Nevertheless, Made said that his side is still conducting further investigations to ascertain the exact cause of death. “To confirm the cause of death, the victim’s body has been taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for visum et repertum,” Made stated. Meanwhile, several witnesses from the immigration side have also been questioned to delve deeper into the incident. It is known that DJR was previously arrested by the Depok Immigration Office on Monday (20/4/2026) due to suspected residency permit violations. He was then brought to the Depok Immigration Office for further examination.
