A British man, Paul Innes Dougan, has died after allegedly being beaten by four foreign nationals at a bar in Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali. Paul had been undergoing treatment for almost two weeks before taking his last breath at BIMC Hospital.

Paul died on Thursday (20/8). The alleged assault took place at 2.00 a.m. local time. The case was only reported to the police on Thursday.

“The incident was only reported yesterday (Thursday). The Police Chief immediately went to the crime scene,” said Bali Police Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Ariasandy, on Friday (21/8/2026).

Ariasandy said the case is still being investigated by the Denpasar Police. Based on initial findings, police suspect that four foreign nationals carried out the attack on Paul.

“Initial findings strongly suggest there were four foreign national perpetrators,” he added.

Police have not yet disclosed the identities of the suspected perpetrators.

After the incident, Paul was at his hotel in Kuta. He was later picked up by Murni Teguh Hospital to receive medical treatment.

The following day, Paul was picked up by his son, Liam Michael Dougan, and taken to the Emergency Department of BIMC Hospital. Paul then underwent treatment at the hospital until he eventually passed away.

The injuries sustained by Paul have not yet been explained. However, police have checked the victim’s medical information with the hospital.

Meanwhile, Paul’s body is currently at Dharma Yadnya General Hospital in Denpasar.

Police have also taken a statement from Liam Michael Dougan as part of the investigation.

“The person concerned has filed a police report,” he said.

The incident was previously posted by Liam on his personal Instagram account @liamdougann. In his post, Liam said his father had received treatment in the ICU before passing away.

In the video, Liam also said Paul suffered broken ribs and required three operations and four blood transfusions.
