British host security meeting
THAILAND: Britain has launched a week-long conference here to
encourage Southeast Asian participation in international
peacekeeping, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
Exercise Blue Elephant 2002 has drawn together some 50
government, police and military officials along with aid workers
at Bangkok's Peninsula Hotel for role-playing games to promote
the sharing of security techniques.
Thai experts will coach participants under the guidance of
British trainers while representatives from the United Nations
will discuss their peacekeeping experiences during the Feb. 18-22
meeting.
Britain chose Thailand as the location for the seminar because
it has demonstrated its commitment to peacekeeping in the region,
the embassy said in a statement. --AFP
