BATAM - A British Embassy delegation met with the Batam Authority (BP Batam) to discuss business potential and cooperation in the Riau Islands, particularly Batam.

Niall Ahern, Country Director for Business, Trade and Investment, said his visit was aimed at learning about Batam's development in terms of investment, the business climate, and future project plans.

"We want to seek information regarding the investment climate, business conditions and potential cooperation that may materialise in the future," said Niall in Batam on Thursday (23/5/2025).

According to BKPM data, the United Kingdom recorded investment realisation in Batam of US$10 million in 2024. To date, British companies that have invested in Batam operate in the electrical equipment, drinking water processing, equipment components, logistics, electrical power machinery, real estate, waste management and recycling, and tourism sectors.

BP Batam Deputy for General Services Ariastuti Sirait said Batam continues to strive to become a comfortable investment destination for foreign investors.

"Batam currently has hundreds of industries that continue to grow. We hope cooperation with the United Kingdom will continue for investment in Batam," she said.

Previously, BP Batam committed to accelerating licensing services related to investment, following pressure from the business community in Batam demanding easier licensing procedures. By improving the quality of licensing, it is hoped that the flow of investment into Batam will be facilitated.

Coordinator of the Batam and Karimun Industrial Estate Association (HKI) Adhy Prasetio Wibowo said that licensing bureaucracy with certainty would increase the confidence of foreign investors, enabling Batam to become an alternative export destination beyond the United States.

He expressed full support for BP Batam's intention to accelerate licensing services. According to Adhy, smooth licensing can support the flow of investment to Batam and naturally increase investor confidence.

"Smooth licensing represents legal certainty that can increase the trust of both domestic and foreign investors in Batam," he explained.
