British Council hosts video contest

JAKARTA: The British Council, Jakarta, will hold a video competition for Indonesian senior high school students, with a two-week trip to the UK as the prize for two winners, a Council spokesman announced.

"The videos, which should be made in English, will be selected at the British Council on Jan. 15, 2003," Council marketing and communications manager Simon Giverin said over the weekend.

He made the announcement after a breaking of the fast function at the British Council, also attended by a number of educators in Jakarta.

The entrants must be 16 years to 18 years of age on February 28, 2003, Giverin said.

"In the video, the students should tell us whom they are, where they are from, what they are thinking of studying, why an education in the UK would benefit them and what they honestly think of the UK," he said, adding that the duration of films should be no more than three minutes.

Giverin said each entrant was allowed to submit only one videotape to the competition. All entrants would have to obtain written consent to enter the competition from their parents and school principal or teachers.

The two winners will travel to the UK, departing on March 15, 2003 and returning on March 31, 2003, he said. --Antara
