Duncan Graham's account of life among Surabaya's small British
community (The Jakarta Post, Sept. 24) paints a vivid picture,
but is inaccurate in two important details.

Firstly, the network of British consular wardens is alive and
kicking, having been reinforced with a number of new recruits in
the last month. Secondly, also alive and kicking is the British
Honorary Consul in Surabaya -- I have had the honour of serving
in the position for the last 12 months. Britons in distress in
Surabaya continue to receive the appropriate assistance.
