Britain queries polls security

JAKARTA: British Senior Minister Lord Powell on Tuesday met House Speaker Akbar Tandjung to discuss the preparations of the national elections scheduled for April 5.

During the meeting, Powell raised questions about security ahead of the elections.

He said insecurity prior to and during the elections would deter foreign investment from Britain in the country.

Akbar assured Powell the nation would take every measure to maintain security during the elections.

Akbar also invited delegates of the British government to witness the voting day across the country.

Foreign guests were free to visit Aceh, Papua or other violence-prone areas to monitor the elections there, he said. -- Antara
