BRI's Sustainable Social Bond Wins Top Award
PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) has won the Anugerah Utama award for its 2025 Social Bond issuance initiative, which promotes inclusive and sustainable finance.
The award recognises BRI’s commitment to strengthening the implementation of sustainable finance through the issuance of Social Bonds as a funding instrument that supports inclusive and sustainable financing.
In line with this spirit, BRI’s Social Bond issuance reflects the application of ESG principles realised through sustainable funding innovation. Through this instrument, BRI raises funds from the capital market, which are then specifically allocated to finance or refinance various social projects that meet the criteria within BRI’s Social Finance Framework.
This framework refers to the Social Bond Principles from ICMA, the Social Loan Principles, as well as POJK Number 51/POJK.03/2017 on the Implementation of Sustainable Finance for Financial Services Institutions, Issuers, and Public Companies, POJK Number 18 of 2023 on the Issuance and Requirements of Debt Securities and Sukuk Based on Sustainability, and the Indonesian Sustainable Finance Taxonomy (TKBI). The framework ensures that bond funds are allocated in a measurable manner for financing that benefits underprivileged communities, groups that have not yet obtained adequate access to essential services, women, and other vulnerable groups.
BRI’s Social Bond received an idAAA (Triple A) rating from PEFINDO and recorded investor demand of 1.31 times the issuance target. In 2026, BRI will again issue a Social Bond worth Rp5 trillion.
In its 2025 Social Bond impact report, BRI noted that Micro People’s Business Credit (KUR) financing has provided first-time bank loan access to 44,694 customers and improved business access for 23,422 customers.
Meanwhile, micro financing through KUPEDES has contributed to the creation of 59,091 jobs in the MSME segment. This achievement also supports the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1 No Poverty, SDG 2 Zero Hunger, and SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth.
BRI’s Director of Legal and Compliance, Mahdi Yusuf, said that the sustainable issuance of Social Bonds demonstrates BRI’s commitment to strengthening funding oriented towards social impact.
“Through Social Bonds, BRI expands access to financial services, strengthens community businesses, and supports job creation. This award further strengthens our commitment to ensuring that every sustainable funding instrument produces real, measurable, and targeted benefits,” said Mahdi, quoted on Sunday (23/8/2026).
