BRI's Digital Transformation Drives Merchant Business and QRIS Transaction Growth
Through the development of its merchant ecosystem and QRIS, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) has recorded significant growth while strengthening its transaction-based low-cost funding base and expanding access to financial services for the public. This performance is reflected in the growth of the merchant and QRIS business up to the first quarter of 2026. The number of BRI merchants increased to 323,700, with transaction volume growing 26.5% year-on-year (yoy) to Rp67.9 trillion. Meanwhile, QRIS transaction volume surged 76% yoy to Rp30.5 trillion, and the number of transactions rose 86.7% yoy to more than 253 billion transactions. BRI’s Director of Network & Retail Funding, Aquarius Rudianto, stated that strengthening the merchant and QRIS ecosystem expands the transaction ecosystem, reinforces the accumulation of transaction-based low-cost funds, and opens greater opportunities for business players to grow. He noted that this capability aligns with BRI’s commitment as part of Danantara to create value through financial services that are increasingly efficient, integrated, and oriented towards the needs of the public. “As digital transactions increase, BRI continues to deliver safe, easy, and reliable payment solutions for the public. To date, 98.9% of BRI transactions have been conducted through e-channels. At the same time, we are also continuously strengthening digital financial literacy, particularly in the use of QRIS, so that the adoption of non-cash payments becomes more widespread and can support the public’s economic activities,” said Aquarius. Through integrated payment system support and the accelerated steps of BRIvolution Reignite, BRI is strengthening its funding franchise by optimising digital channels to build a more solid transaction-based low-cost funding base. This effort is carried out by increasing customer acquisition and transaction management, strengthening partnerships with merchants, and developing payment ecosystems across various business segments. The strengthening of digital transactions and funding also supported BRI’s overall financial performance up to the first quarter of 2026. The bank’s total assets reached Rp2,250 trillion, growing 7.2% yoy. On the funding side, BRI’s total Third-Party Funds (DPK) also recorded encouraging growth, supported by increasingly solid consolidated low-cost funds (CASA). As of March 2026, BRI successfully gathered Third-Party Funds (DPK) amounting to Rp1,555.1 trillion, growing 9.4% year-on-year. Of this amount, consolidated CASA increasingly dominated, reaching Rp1,058.6 trillion, equivalent to 68.07% of total DPK, up from 65.77% in the same period the previous year.
