Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk recorded a significant year-on-year growth of 1,144 percent in the frequency of contactless debit transactions during the first quarter of 2026. BRI’s Director of Network and Retail Funding, Aquarius Rudianto, stated in a written release in Jakarta on Friday that the bank continues to promote increased customer transaction activity through the development of the payment ecosystem, including contactless services targeted at the retail segment. Alongside the rising frequency, the value of BRI’s contactless debit transactions also showed strong growth of 1,195 percent year-on-year, amounting to Rp15.9 trillion. Meanwhile, the number of contactless debit cards has reached one million, representing 796 percent growth year-on-year since their launch in October 2024. With increasing adoption, contactless services are also contributing to BRI’s business performance. Fee-based income from contactless services grew by 770.5 percent year-on-year. BRI views this service as not only expanding in usage but also adding financial value to the company. From a security perspective, BRI’s contactless service is designed with multi-layered protection systems that maintain transaction convenience. Near Field Communication (NFC) technology ensures transactions can only be conducted at very close range, minimising the risk of misuse. Additionally, every transaction is protected by transaction limits, data encryption, and real-time monitoring by the bank’s system. With this security support, Aquarius stated, contactless services not only drive ease and increased transactions but also ensure customer activities remain safe and protected. “This achievement not only reflects the growing adoption of contactless payment technology in society but also demonstrates the effectiveness of BRI’s digital transformation in delivering faster, more practical, and secure transaction services, in line with changing customer behaviour towards a contactless lifestyle,” he said.
