Brio Driver in Bekasi Attacked by Mob After Suspected Hit-and-Run

BEKASI – A red Honda Brio with number plate B 2014 TIC became the target of a mob attack after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run at Grand Galaxy Park on Jalan Jakasetia in South Bekasi District, Bekasi City, on Sunday evening (31 May 2026). The incident, which occurred around 8:00 PM WIB, went viral on social media.

In a video uploaded by Instagram account @infobekasi_official, the vehicle showed significant damage after being stopped by locals. Iptu Rojali, Traffic Crime Investigation Unit Chief of Bekasi City Metropolitan Police, explained that the incident began when the Honda Brio driven by Maulana Idris, accompanied by an unidentified woman, was parked at Ruko Sentra Bisnis 3 in South Bekasi.

‘They were about to engage in inappropriate behaviour when security guard Masdi checked the vehicle,’ Rojali said during a WhatsApp confirmation with Kompas.com on Monday (1 June 2026). According to Rojali, the driver allegedly panicked during the security check and attempted to flee in the vehicle.

‘While fleeing, the vehicle hit a glass pillar, then exited the ruko area and headed towards Lagoon,’ Rojali said. While heading towards Lagoon, the car allegedly collided with an unidentified motorcyclist and another rider named Egi, who was riding a motorcycle with number plate B 4751 KHE.

As a result, the motorcyclist victims and other road users chased the Honda Brio. After the car was stopped, the crowd allegedly vented their anger by damaging the vehicle. However, police confirmed no fatalities in the incident involving the car and motorcycle collision. ‘Only material damage,’ Rojali said. As a result of the mob attack, the Honda Brio driver sustained several injuries, particularly to the head.
