Brio driver attacked by mob in Bekasi as parents deny hit-and-run allegations
BEKASI – JT (45), father of MI (19), the driver of a red Honda Brio who was attacked by a mob in the Grand Galaxy Park area of South Bekasi, West Java, denies allegations that his son was involved in a hit-and-run incident as widely circulated on social media.
According to JT, claims that his son hit pedestrians and fled the scene remain unproven speculation.
“The reports that the crowd shouted ‘thief’, that my son grazed a child, then hit someone and fled—all of this is untrue,” JT told Kompas.com via telephone on Monday, 1 June 2026.
“If there are any parties affected, we are prepared to resolve matters amicably,” he added.
He stated that the family is still waiting for any affected parties to come forward for resolution, including medical costs or compensation.
JT revealed that his son sustained injuries after being attacked by the mob who stopped his car on Sunday evening.
“My son has head injuries from being beaten with a helmet, cigarette burns on various parts of his body, and even shards of glass forced into his mouth,” he said.
“For now, we are focusing on my son’s condition as he is still receiving treatment,” JT added.
JT also responded to circulating claims that his son fled after being caught engaging in indecent behaviour inside the car with a woman.
“Regarding these reports, it is the duty of the authorities to verify whether the statements provided are valid, verified, and proven,” he said.
Previously, MI was suspected of involvement in a hit-and-run incident after his car, accompanied by a woman, was parked in the Ruko Sentra Bisnis 3 area of South Bekasi on Sunday, 31 May 2026 evening.
