Bringing Indonesian children closer, 2026 National Children's Day commemoration to be decentralised

The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) has announced that the 2026 National Children’s Day (HAN) commemoration will be conducted in a decentralised manner to bring the event closer to children across all regions of Indonesia. “This is similar to last year, being decentralised down to the village and school level. It aims to bring children closer together throughout Indonesia. A centralised commemoration model, whilst holding important symbolic value, may limit direct involvement and tangible impact for children,” said Ciput Eka Purwianti, Assistant Deputy for Service Provision for Children in Need of Special Protection at KemenPPPA, during a media talk in Jakarta on Wednesday. “This transforms the event from a top-down spectacle into a movement that grows from the grassroots,” Ciput Eka Purwianti stated. A number of activities are being held as part of the 2026 National Children’s Day series, including the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children (Gernas RANA), the Jointly Protect Children (Berlian) campaign, the Jelajah SAPA programme, the National Children’s Forum Workshop, and ‘Anak Goes to Istana Negara Jakarta’. “‘Anak Goes to Istana Negara Jakarta’ is an educational and inspirational activity that provides children with the opportunity to learn about the environment and history of the Presidential Palace, whilst fostering self-confidence, leadership, patriotism, and the belief that their voices and roles are important for the nation’s future,” she said. The series also includes the Indonesian Children’s Joint Movement, Kemudi Anak, Main Raya Anak Nusantara, and a visit to Dufan for Children in Need of Special Protection (AMPK).
