BRIN Unveils Three Special Strategies to Boost Economic Growth
Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria revealed that his agency has three special strategies to help accelerate national economic growth, in the context of welcoming Indonesia Emas 2045.
“To support the achievement of economic growth targets and Indonesia Emas 2045, we are developing three tracks. The first is delivering innovation to increase the productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs,” he said during a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and 150 researchers in the central courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
The BRIN head continued that the second track is strengthening the competitiveness of national industry and Danantara through research and innovation; and the third is facilitating the co-development of advanced world technologies so that Indonesia becomes part of technology development.
He stated that BRIN will focus on developing advanced technologies that will determine the country’s competitiveness over the next two to three decades.
A number of technologies such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and genetic engineering or genomics are being developed in an effort to reduce export dependence, multiply national productivity, and increase self-reliance in producing seeds, medicines, and bioindustry.
“(Next) quantum technology for security and future computing. In addition, there are two technologies that we continue to develop, namely nuclear and space, as levers for energy sovereignty, health, food, and territorial surveillance,” Arif continued.
Arif said that mastery of these technologies will determine whether Indonesia becomes a technology user or a technology owner in the future.
He stressed that research and innovation are the locomotive of sustainable economic growth as well as the foundation of Indonesia’s future competitiveness.
“The experience of various countries shows that there is a positive correlation between innovation capacity as indicated by the Global Innovation Index and GDP per capita per year,” said Arif Satria.
On the same occasion, President Prabowo Subianto emphasised that mastery of science and technology is the main key to a nation’s progress.
According to the President, mastery of science and technology cannot be separated from the quality of education. Therefore, Prabowo described education as the most important foundation in building superior human resources.
“From the mastery of science and technology, education is of course the foundation, the most critical, most critical cornerstone,” President Prabowo asserted.
