BRIN to Present Alternative LPG Replacement Technology to Prabowo

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will present adsorbed natural gas (ANG) technology to President Prabowo Subianto as an alternative to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) during a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday. BRIN Head Arif Satria stated that the technology is a flagship product with significant prospects for supporting national energy security. “There are potential products that have not yet entered the market but have good prospects, such as products for ANG or adsorbed natural gas, which could be a point for an energy revolution in Indonesia. We will present all of this,” Arif said upon arrival at the Presidential Palace. He explained that ANG technology has the advantage of operating at pressures below 30 bar, making it a viable alternative to LPG. “We can provide solutions to save gas and conserve foreign exchange. Because if ANG can be used at a pressure of less than 30 bar, it can replace LPG. This is one of our mainstays that will provide solutions for the energy sector,” he stated. The innovation is part of BRIN’s presentation on research results that could help solve national problems, particularly in the energy sector. According to BRIN’s website, ANG is a gas storage technology that uses porous adsorbent materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOF), allowing gas to be stored at much lower pressures than compressed natural gas (CNG). This offers advantages in safety, storage efficiency, and potential cost reduction, although the technology still requires further development to reach a broad commercial scale. In addition to ANG technology, BRIN is showcasing around 150 to 200 innovative products from 12 research clusters, including food, health, transportation, housing, space, aviation, nuclear, rare earth metals, as well as innovations supporting the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme and the development of fishing villages. Arif added that President Prabowo is scheduled to tour the exhibition and engage in dialogue with the researchers. He noted that the President’s support for research and technological development motivates BRIN researchers to continue producing innovations beneficial to society. “We clearly remember the President’s message that technological mastery is the nation’s dignity. He often conveys this, and it makes us even more enthusiastic about conducting research to produce innovation,” Arif said.
