BRIN to Intervene in Low-Competitiveness Regions Through Regional Innovation Houses
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is preparing to intervene in regions with low Regional Competitiveness Index (IDSD) scores through the establishment of Regional Innovation Houses (RID).
“We will soon be launching the Indonesia Innovation House (RII) here in Jakarta, and after we launch it as an ecosystem based on national innovation, we will cascade it down to the regional level, namely the Regional Innovation House (RID),” said BRIN Head Arif Satria in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Arif stated that his agency, through the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (Brida), stands ready to assist local governments in addressing issues related to regional innovation.
“The Regional Innovation House will become one of the important pillars for the growth of innovation, so that innovation brings impact, brings effects on economic advancement,” he continued.
Arif revealed that a number of regional leaders have contacted BRIN and expressed their readiness to open RID centres in their areas this year.
“I am very proud of the regions that are becoming aware and competing to be the first,” said Arif Satria.
Echoing Arif’s sentiments, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto emphasised that research, innovation and collaboration are the keys to Golden Indonesia 2045.
According to him, regional development must be based on research and collaboration, and should not be driven solely by economic or even political interests.
“That is why we welcome the initiative of the BRIN Head so that these regions treat the innovation index and competitiveness index as a matter of great seriousness in order to deliver impact on advancement targets in the regions. The Ministry of Home Affairs is ready to focus on piloting projects — several regions, whether provinces, cities or regencies — we will supervise together and strengthen the building of their innovation ecosystems,” said Bima Arya Sugiarto.
