The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will build a Regional Innovation House in every province as an effort to strengthen the research ecosystem and accelerate the downstreaming of innovation to support regional economic development. The programme will be launched after the inauguration of the Indonesian Innovation House, scheduled for September 2026.

BRIN Head Arif Satria stated that the Regional Innovation Houses are designed to be collaborative platforms for researchers from various universities within a province to produce research capable of addressing strategic issues in the regions.

‘Universities contribute to strengthening research and development for MSMEs and industries in the regions. Later, a Regional Innovation House will be built in every province,’ Arif said during a national research public lecture at the Universitas Negeri Malang, East Java, on Friday.

According to Arif, strengthening the national economy must begin by reinforcing the economic foundation at the regional level. Therefore, an ecosystem is needed that can bring together researchers, academics, and various stakeholders to develop applied research with a direct impact on society.

He explained that the Regional Innovation House will serve as a space for inter-university collaboration to exchange ideas, conduct joint research, and implement innovations to support the resolution of development issues at both the provincial and district or city levels.

‘Before the Regional Innovation Houses, we will first launch the Indonesian Innovation House this September. After that, the Regional Innovation Houses will be launched,’ he said.

In addition to preparing the Regional Innovation Houses, BRIN is also encouraging more universities to build science techno park facilities as a bridge between academia and industry.

According to Arif, the existence of science techno parks will accelerate the downstreaming process of research and innovation developed by researchers, lecturers, and students, so they do not remain merely scientific products but can be utilised by the business world and the public.

‘By building science techno parks, universities will create a bridge for the relationship between campuses and industry,’ he said.
