BRIN Team Studies TPS3R in Buleleng to Support Clean Bali from Waste Movement
A team from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) conducted a study visit to the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS3R) in Baktiseraga Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali, to examine the implementation of the Clean Bali from Waste Movement programme. “This visit aims to collect field data related to waste management from upstream to downstream,” said BRIN Policy Analyst Argo Nugroho in a statement received by ANTARA in Buleleng on Thursday. According to him, Bali faces complex challenges in waste management, as it not only relates to health and cleanliness but also concerns the global tourism image. His team explained that the northernmost regency of the Island of the Gods was chosen as the study location because it represents the northern coastal area with rural characteristics. Previously, the BRIN team had held discussions with Regional Device Organisations (OPD), village government, TPS3R managers, and market managers. Those discussions emphasised the importance of strengthening the upstream sector, particularly in increasing public awareness to sort waste from the source. During the visit to the TPS3R in Baktiseraga Village, the BRIN team assessed that waste management at the site has been running quite well, especially in processing organic waste. The local TPS3R has also utilised processing technology, including the use of grant equipment to process organic waste into compost. “The compost produced is not only used for operational needs but also provides added economic value for the workers,” he said. In the future, BRIN encourages strengthening technological support for waste management through collaboration with local governments, including related agencies such as the Public Works Department (PU) and the Environmental Agency (DLH). According to Argo, waste management requires cross-sectoral synergy, from budget support and human resources to the utilisation of appropriate technology. Through this study, BRIN hopes to produce applicable policy recommendations to support the Buleleng Regency Government (Pemkab) and the Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov) in realising a clean and sustainable environment.
