BRIN Tasked by Prabowo to Find New Water Sources, Anticipating Climate Change Impact

The Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, has received a direct assignment from President Prabowo Subianto during a Plenary Cabinet Session (SKP). BRIN has been tasked with seeking new water sources to anticipate the impacts of climate change.

Arif stated that the assignment aims to anticipate the effects of climate change. According to him, President Prabowo has positioned water resilience as a crucial element for daily life.

"BRIN has been tasked by the President to strengthen technology for finding new water sources. This is because climate change has become an inevitability that must be anticipated," he told reporters after the SKP at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (20/7/2026).

"The President has placed water resilience as one of the important programmes, because it not only supports daily life but also food security," Arif continued.

Arif confirmed that BRIN already possesses several technologies to detect new water sources, including nuclear-based and drone technologies, as well as seawater desalination technology. In its implementation, BRIN will coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works.

Previously, President Prabowo had touched upon the issue of state wealth that must be controlled for the prosperity of the people, including water. He insisted that this wealth must be continuously safeguarded.

"Branches of production that are important for the state and which affect the lives of many people shall be controlled by the state. So this is not something that needs to be interpreted," Prabowo said in his directives at the Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (20/7).

"The land, water, and natural resources contained therein must be utilised for the greatest possible prosperity of the people. They must be used, controlled by the state, and utilised for the greatest prosperity of the people," he continued.
