Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is targeting strategic research to accelerate and improve the quality of the domestic cosmetics research industry.

“Our cosmetics industry has grown by 77 percent from 2020 to 2024-2025. Imagine, 77 percent; this shows that the market for this industry is very high, and this market can only be fulfilled if we have superior innovations, good technology, so that it can be applied in industry, thus becoming an engine of growth for the industry,” said BRIN Head Arif Satria when met on the sidelines of the BRIN Goes To Industry III event in Jakarta on Thursday.

Therefore, through strategic research, he hopes that Indonesia will be strong in both upstream and downstream aspects of the cosmetics industry, not just as an exporter of raw materials.

“We want the added value to be in Indonesia, so like it or not, we must continue to pursue downstreaming and also upstreaming. Why? Upstream is important so that industries that need raw materials from us get quality raw materials, continuous raw materials,” he said.

If quality and continuity can be guaranteed by the upstream sector, then an industry can also develop well.

He revealed that currently, his side has conducted research in the processing of essential oils, which is one of the raw materials for perfumes, serums, and facial creams.

Through the BRIN Goes To Industry III event, he said, it is hoped that synergy between research and industry needs can be established, so that this can lead to strengthening research and industry in Indonesia.

“Don’t let BRIN conduct research that is purely the imagination of researchers; when it’s finished, the industry doesn’t need it. That’s what we want to avoid,” said Arif Satria.
