Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria said the agency was testing the effectiveness of dry-ice technology, which has already been used in weather-modification operations.

“Dry ice has already been used in the field, working together with other parties. We also want to study how effective it is,” Arif said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He said the effectiveness study was part of efforts to develop innovations to improve weather-modification operations.

BRIN is also preparing a number of technological innovations to support weather-modification operations (OMC).

In addition to dry ice, Arif said there was a technology based on two-micron-sized material, as well as other technologies still being prepared for testing. The equipment needed to support field activities had also been prepared.

“We coordinated with the Indonesian Air Force yesterday afternoon, and all the personnel are ready. God willing, we will test several innovations,” he said.

Arif added that the development and testing of weather-modification technologies involved collaboration among several agencies, including BRIN, the Indonesian Air Force, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the Ministry of Transportation.

Arif stressed that field testing was an important part of determining the effectiveness of the technologies being developed before they were used more widely.
