The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has stated that the Regional Innovation Hubs are intended to build a research and innovation ecosystem that has an impact on national development progress. Speaking during a National Research Public Lecture at the State University of Malang, East Java, BRIN Head Arif Satria emphasised that universities must optimise the use of these hubs for research and innovation. “Campuses contribute to strengthening research and development for MSMEs and local industries. A Regional Innovation Hub will be built in every province,” he said. He conveyed that strengthening the national economy requires first bolstering the economic sectors in the regions. In general, he explained, the planned programme will serve as a platform to bring together researchers from various universities within a single province. This will allow researchers from different campuses to exchange ideas in preparing concepts and implementing research and innovation to solve strategic issues at the provincial and regional levels. Before launching the Regional Innovation Hubs, BRIN will first inaugurate the Rumah Inovasi Indonesia programme. “We will launch Rumah Inovasi Indonesia in September, and after that, we will launch the Regional Innovation Hubs,” he stated. Furthermore, BRIN hopes that more universities will have science techno park facilities to accelerate the downstreaming of research and innovation results by researchers, lecturers, and students. “By building science techno parks, campuses can serve as a bridge connecting academia with industry,” he said.
