BRIN Promotes Knowledge-Based Regional Development Through Innovation Villages
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is promoting knowledge-based regional development in Indonesia through its Innovation Village approach.
Researcher at BRIN’s Centre for Political Research, Siti Zuhro, explained during a BRIN Goes to Village event in Jakarta on Thursday that the concept is designed as an integrated development model based on science, technology, social innovation, and community empowerment.
Siti emphasised that the main vision of this project is to strengthen civilisational values, which should begin by building human resource capacity, rather than simply improving infrastructure.
Through the presence of Innovation Villages, Siti said that BRIN wants to change the development paradigm at the grassroots level so that the programs implemented are not solely based on funds or social assistance, but are able to trigger community creativity and independence.
Meanwhile, Head of BRIN, Arif Satria, explained that the Innovation Village concept is built on five main pillars, namely Smart and Innovative Society, Smart and Innovative Economy, Smart and Innovative Governance, Smart and Innovative Living and Environment, and Smart and Innovative Heritage. These five pillars are designed to create a comprehensive and sustainable village development transformation.
“Through the Innovation Village program, BRIN wants to ensure that research results are present and provide real benefits for the community,” said Arif.
In response, the Minister of Villages and Transmigration, Yandri Susanto, said that village development is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programs in order to strengthen the economy and reduce poverty.
He believes that the five pillars in the Innovation Village initiative are in line with the 12-point action plan for village development launched by the Ministry of Villages and Transmigration.
“If this is the collaboration we do, this collaboration is to ensure that Indonesia’s golden year 2045 can stay on track,” said Yandri Susanto.
