BRIN develops locally-made rubber shoes priced at Rp75,000 for 'Sekolah Rakyat' programme

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has developed an innovation in locally produced rubber shoes priced from around Rp75,000, intended to support the needs of the Sekolah Rakyat programme.

“These are BRIN shoes, a local product. President Prabowo Subianto also asked: ‘BRIN, please make something that can solve the shoe problem’,” said BRIN Head Arif Satria while showing the shoes he was wearing at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday.

Arif said the product is the result of BRIN’s development in Serpong and is made entirely from rubber, allowing it to be produced at a relatively affordable price.

“These are all made from rubber, cheap, less than Rp80,000,” he said.

Arif noted that the current price of the shoes varies depending on the design and materials used. Some products are sold for around Rp75,000, while several other models are priced above Rp100,000.

“At the moment the price varies, depending on the design and materials, around Rp75,000. There are also some above Rp100,000,” he said.

BRIN plans to partner with industry so that the innovation can be mass-produced and reach a wider public.

“Later we will look for industrial partners so we can produce more,” Arif said.

“Indeed, the direction is to help Sekolah Rakyat,” he added.

While speaking with journalists, Arif also invited members of the media to try on the shoes.

According to him, the shoes are lightweight, comfortable to wear, and remain affordable in terms of price.

Arif Satria’s presence at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta was to attend a meeting of 150 BRIN researchers with President Prabowo Subianto.

The researchers were to present their research and innovation results more comprehensively, which could support the resolution of various national problems.
