The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has developed an innovative shoe made from local rubber, priced from around IDR 75,000, intended to support the needs of the Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) programme. BRIN Head Arif Satria, while showcasing the shoes he was wearing at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, stated that President Prabowo Subianto had requested the agency to help solve the issue of shoe provision. He explained that the product was developed at BRIN’s facility in Serpong and is made entirely from rubber, allowing it to be produced at a relatively affordable price. Prices vary depending on the motif and materials, with some models sold for around IDR 75,000 and others priced above IDR 100,000. BRIN plans to seek industrial partners to enable mass production and wider public access. The development is ultimately aimed at helping to meet the footwear needs of students in Sekolah Rakyat. Arif noted that the shoes are lightweight, comfortable to wear, and remain affordable.
