Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has requested a comprehensive study on the impact of implementing mandatory biodiesel blends ranging from 60% to 100% derived from plant-based materials. The President also asked for a study on the implementation of petrol and bioethanol blends from 30% to 100%. “We were asked to study the implications of implementing B60, B100, and also E30, because Brazil has already reached E100. So BRIN was asked to conduct a holistic study on this energy policy,” Arif said following a meeting of 150 BRIN researchers with President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday. Currently, the mandatory biodiesel blend for diesel fuel is only at B50. Arif noted that the President was also very interested in waste-to-energy solutions, including an organic waste processing tool called Lahsamor and pyrolysis technology that can produce energy sources for fishermen. This technology has already been applied in 80 locations, alongside large-scale PSEL technology capable of processing 100 tonnes per day. In the energy sector, the President highlighted Absorbed Natural Gas (ANG) technology, which can store Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at a pressure of 30 bar. Arif claimed that if implemented, this technology could save the state up to Rp 26 trillion per year. “If this is applied, it could save Rp 26 trillion annually related to energy. This research is ongoing and currently being tested; we hope if it can be developed further, it will be an energy revolution in Indonesia,” he stated. The President also observed environmentally friendly roofing technology made from palm oil and coconut waste. Additionally, the N-219 amphibious aircraft, developed by PTDI and BRIN, was highlighted as it eliminates the need for expensive runway investments by using water for take-off and landing.
