BRIN Assures Data from Lampung-1 Satellite Remains Under Indonesian Authority

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has assured that data security in the Lampung-1 satellite project remains under Indonesian authority. The statement was made by BRIN Head Arif Satria in response to concerns about potential data leaks arising from the project’s cooperation with China. “The Lampung Provincial Government and various authorities in Indonesia have coordinated with BRIN. BRIN is involved in the process, and we have discussed matters regarding data security,” Arif stated at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday. He emphasised that all management and storage of data related to Indonesian interests will fall under BRIN’s authority. “It is clear that for all matters concerning data storage for Indonesia, BRIN will hold the authority. God willing, it is safe,” he said. Beyond ensuring the security of the satellite project data, Arif revealed that BRIN is also preparing to launch a domestically produced satellite, BRIN NEO-1, which is scheduled to orbit in early 2027. “We will also launch the BRIN satellite, BRIN NEO-1, which is produced by BRIN itself, with the factory located in Bogor. We will launch it in early 2027, God willing,” he added. The Chinese commercial space company STAR.VISION successfully launched the Oriental Smart Eye (OSE) Hyperspectral-01 and Hyperspectral-02 satellites into their designated orbits on Wednesday morning using a Jielong-3 Y12 carrier rocket from the waters off Haiyang City, Shandong Province, eastern China. The OSE Hyperspectral-01 satellite was jointly developed by STAR.VISION, Wuhan University, and several related institutions, including the Provincial Government of Lampung, Indonesia. Named “Lampung-1” by the Indonesian side, the satellite carries out an Indonesia-China cooperation mission in the fields of remote sensing applications, artificial intelligence, and space capacity development.
