Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has once again appointed five research professors from various fields of expertise during an open session held at the BRIN Auditorium in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3).

BRIN Deputy Head Amarulla Octavian stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that BRIN plays a strategic role as a pillar of research, a driver of innovation, and the development of science and technology for the nation’s progress.

“The five appointed research professors consist of four principal expert researchers and one principal expert engineer, all with outstanding track records and significant contributions in their fields,” he said.

The five professors appointed include Prof Numan Muryana from BRIN’s Public Policy Research Centre, who champions an ecosystem orchestration model for inclusive social welfare in Indonesia; Prof Robert Asnawi, who researches the transformation of cassava agribusiness as a sustainable alternative food source.

Additionally, Prof Taslim Alifini, who develops an ecological carrying capacity index for coral reefs to strengthen ecosystem-based marine spatial governance at the national level; Prof Nunggul Yudono Setio Hadi Nugroho, who researches the transformation of river basins towards regenerative landscapes through a socio-technical approach based on environmental carrying capacity.

Amarulla added that this appointment is special because it involves an engineer elevated to research professor status, reflecting the close collaboration between researchers and engineers in producing innovations.

“The appointment of research professors is not an end, but the beginning of new responsibilities to produce innovative works that impact society,” he said.

The research professors are expected to continue upholding scientific ethics, strengthening collaboration, and delivering research-based solutions relevant to national needs.

With this appointment, the number of BRIN research professors now reaches 100. This achievement serves as an important milestone in strengthening Indonesia’s position on the global research stage.

“Research professors are expected not only to excel in their works but also to serve as role models in integrity and moral responsibility, thereby enhancing public trust in the world of research and innovation,” Amarulla Octavian concluded.
