BRIN and WIKA Forge Partnership for Research and Innovation Development in the Construction Industry
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) are strengthening collaboration in construction research and innovation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on “Strengthening the Research and Innovation Ecosystem in the Construction Industry to Support Sustainable Development Transformation”. The signing took place at BRIN Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8).
This partnership represents a strategic step to bring together BRIN’s research and innovation strengths with the experience, competence, and real needs of WIKA Group in the construction industry. The collaboration is directed towards producing construction technologies that are innovative, applicable, efficient, competitive, and supportive of sustainable development. Additionally, the research partnership aims to explore and develop more environmentally friendly alternative technologies to support the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in the construction industry.
WIKA President Director I Ketut Pasek Senjaya stated that the collaboration with BRIN is an important step for WIKA Group in strengthening research and innovation capacity while promoting the use of technologies relevant to industry needs.
“This collaboration is part of WIKA Group’s efforts to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem by bringing together BRIN’s research capabilities with the experience and industry needs of WIKA Group. We hope this partnership does not stop at research, but can produce applicable technologies that can be commercialised, including more environmentally friendly alternative technologies to support ESG implementation and sustainable development,” said Pasek Senjaya.
Through the Memorandum of Understanding, BRIN and WIKA will build a collaboration encompassing a series of research, development, assessment, application, and invention and innovation processes in construction technology. Its implementation will also involve synergy within the WIKA Group according to the competence and needs of each entity.
The scope of the partnership includes the development of precast concrete housing technology, concrete technology and railway construction systems, concrete technology for sea wall construction, Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear construction technology, and the development of more environmentally friendly concrete technology.
The development of these technologies is expected to be part of efforts to find alternative materials, methods, and construction technologies that are more efficient in resource use and have a lower environmental impact. This simultaneously supports the strengthening of ESG implementation in WIKA Group’s business activities.
The scope of the partnership serves as a foundation for encouraging the development of construction technologies that not only address current development needs but are also relevant to future development challenges. Through the synergy between BRIN and WIKA Group, research results are expected to be developed into solutions that provide added value for the construction industry while supporting sustainable national development.
In addition to technology development, the partnership also includes the utilisation of facilities and infrastructure, the deployment of personnel and experts, the exchange of data and information, and the development of human resource capacity based on science and technology.
