BRIN and Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to Soon Launch Indonesia's 2045 Research Roadmap

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) are preparing Indonesia’s 2045 research roadmap as well as a research agenda up to 2029. “We have agreed on Indonesia’s research roadmap, which, God willing, we may launch next week. One book on Indonesia’s 2045 research roadmap, and another on the research agenda up to 2029,” said BRIN Head Arif Satria in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. Arif stated that both documents will serve as joint references in the development of national research. In the development of national research, he assessed that basic research and applied research do not need to be pitted against each other, but must proceed side by side. According to him, the role of the state is still important in promoting research, especially because the capacity for research and development (R&D) in Indonesian industry is still limited. Therefore, the state is present to strengthen research, both for current needs and the long term. In addition, he conveyed that BRIN positions itself as an institution that conducts forward technology forecasting. “We must imagine what technologies will develop in 2035,” he said. Arif gave an example that in battery technology development, the ability to predict materials that will be used in the future is needed, whether it remains nickel-based or shifts to other materials like graphene or graphite. The ability to project technology, he continued, is important so that the research conducted today can provide benefits in the future. “We will be able to conduct research today whose results we feel in 2035-2040, and so on,” said Arif Satria.
