BRIN Advances Nuclear Ecosystem Collaboration with Russia
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is maturing steps to accelerate the sustainable energy transition being promoted by the government. This effort is being carried out through a strategic visit to Rosatom’s headquarters in Russia.
During the visit on Wednesday (8/4), BRIN Head Arif Satria met with Rosatom’s First Deputy CEO, Kirill Komarov, along with the Board of Directors. The meeting discussed exploring technical collaboration up to the development of Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) infrastructure in Indonesia.
Arif stated that preparations to face future energy challenges can no longer be delayed. According to him, nuclear technology is one of the keys to maintaining national energy sovereignty in the long term.
“Our discussions with Rosatom are not just a formal meeting, but an effort to explore concrete steps to bring stable and clean future energy to all Indonesian people,” said Arif in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
As one of the major players in the global nuclear industry, Rosatom is considered to have experience that Indonesia can utilise to accelerate development in this sector. Arif mentioned that Russia’s long experience in nuclear energy management presents a strategic opportunity that needs to be built through equal partnerships.
“We want to strengthen local research and innovation capacity so that our nuclear ecosystem is not only safe and reliable, but also sustainable because it is managed by the nation’s best talents,” he said.
He emphasised that cooperation with Rosatom is not only directed at procuring physical infrastructure, but also at building a comprehensive research ecosystem.
“Our focus is on comprehensive collaboration. So, this is not just about buying technology, but we are pushing for massive technology transfer,” he stated.
Indonesia-Russia relations in the nuclear energy sector have been established for several decades. The cooperation covers research, technology development, and education.
Through BRIN, the government is committed to ensuring that every step in nuclear development in Indonesia prioritises peaceful objectives and the highest international safety standards.
