BRIN Accelerates Science-Based Sustainable Livestock Transformation
The global community is facing a series of interconnected and increasingly complex challenges, ranging from rising food demands and persistent nutritional disparities to climate change pressures and resource limitations. Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is driving the transformation of the sustainable livestock industry based on science to realise nutritional resilience and economic growth worldwide, including in Indonesia. This was stated by BRIN Head Arif Satria when opening the “International Strategic Meeting on Scientific Pathways for Sustainable Livestock Industry Transformation”, which brought together delegates from various countries at BRIN’s office in Jakarta on Friday. “The global community is facing a series of interconnected and increasingly complex challenges, ranging from rising food demands and persistent nutritional disparities to climate change pressures and resource limitations,” said Arif. In facing these challenges, he emphasised that the livestock sector holds a strategic position in the integrated agrifood value chain, thus requiring a profound transformation that is environmentally responsible. These scientific steps, according to Arif, include advancing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a policy foundation, data-driven digital farming systems, and supply chains connecting upstream and downstream production. Nevertheless, he reminded that science alone is not enough as it requires alignment with policies and investments to bridge the gap between research outcomes and real-world impacts. Arif also highlighted three strategic directions expected from this meeting: strengthening robust data-based livestock innovations, accelerating agrifood system integration so that sustainability is not fragmented, and encouraging joint investments among stakeholders. As a concrete follow-up to this international strategic meeting, his side will soon form a task force under the Deputy for Development Policy. “Let us align science, policy, and investment to transform this livestock sector into a driver of global nutritional resilience and sustainable economic growth,” stated Arif Satria.
