The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) continues efforts to accelerate research commercialisation through the BRIN Goes to Industry programme. The initiative aims to ensure that innovations produced can be utilised by the business sector and society.

BRIN Chief Arif Satria stated that this agenda represents an important opportunity for the institution to promote innovations that have been developed, whilst evaluating the implementation of licensing partnerships with industry. Discussions held during the activity involved industrial partners to assess the extent to which such collaborations have been successfully executed.

“This is an important momentum for BRIN to promote existing innovations, then to monitor how far the licensing that has been conducted as cooperation between BRIN and industry has been implemented, and the extent of its impact,” Satria said.

The activity also provides BRIN with space to gather feedback from industry so that research and innovations developed can better align with market needs.

Arif emphasised that collaboration with the business sector is an important step to accelerate the utilisation of research results with tangible impact for society.

“Cooperation with industry has become inevitable. This is actually our opportunity to accelerate research commercialisation. Because we strengthen BRIN’s process of research commercialisation so that it becomes increasingly beneficial for the people, industry, and the government,” he stated.

BRIN is also evaluating the implementation of technology licensing. Several companies have already utilised existing licenses, whilst others remain in negotiation processes, and some partners are still preparing further collaboration.

“Currently, some companies have already utilised licenses, some are in negotiation processes, and some have not yet obtained licenses. We are evaluating all of this. Which ones already have licenses and what impact they have, and those that do not, what are the obstacles,” Arif explained.

The BRIN Goes to Industry activity was attended by 33 licensed industry partners, three strategic industry partners, as well as prospective strategic industry partners and BRIN researchers.

Beyond presentations, the activity continued with discussions to assess how far collaboration is progressing, as well as the challenges and impact of innovation implementation in the field.

On this occasion, Arif Satria also revealed that BRIN is developing the Indonesian Innovation House (RII). This facility is designed as a national innovation showcase, whilst simultaneously serving as a networking and collaboration centre. RII will function not only as a window for Indonesian innovation, but also as a hub for various innovation needs, ranging from partnerships and licensing to technology development.
