Brimob Vehicle Struck by Train at Unguarded Crossing in Bantul, No Injuries Reported

The Bantul Police have disclosed that a Brimob (Mobile Brigade Corps) official vehicle struck by a train at the Tapen crossing in Argosari, Sedayu, Bantul, was carrying two people, a driver and a passenger, neither of whom sustained any injuries. Kasi Humas Polres Bantul, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, stated that the Brimob service vehicle was an Isuzu with registration number 17416-XX IV. The driver was Bripka Yudi Saputro (39) and the passenger was Bripda Tommy Priambada (31).

“Alhamdulillah, there were no fatalities in this incident. Both the driver, Bripka Yudi, and the passenger, Bripda Tommy, are in good health and without injury,” she told reporters on Thursday (23/7/2026). Regarding the chronology, Rita explained that the Brimob vehicle was approaching the railway crossing from the south. Upon arriving at the location, the driver allegedly failed to pay sufficient attention to the rail situation and did not notice the Airport Train, driven by engineer Asrul, approaching from the north.

“As he reached the crossing gate, the driver was not fully aware of the Airport Train about to pass from the north. Due to the close distance, the train sideswiped the front bonnet of the vehicle,” she said. Rita further revealed that the railway crossing in Tapen Hamlet was not yet equipped with an automatic barrier system and did not have a guard on duty. Although a crossing post building had already been erected at the site, the safety facilities were only scheduled to officially begin operations next month.

“At the scene, the railway crossing gate is indeed not yet automatic and there is no guard, but a crossing post has been built. The facility is planned to begin operations in August 2026,” she stated. Consequently, Rita noted that the cause of the incident at the Tapen crossing was the automatic barrier not yet functioning optimally. “Therefore, it is suspected that the accident occurred because the automatic barrier system at the crossing was not yet operational, so the crossing security was not functioning optimally,” she said. In addition to the non-operational automatic barrier, police assessed that the driver’s lack of vigilance when about to cross the tracks was the primary cause of the incident.
